What are the Effects of Kratom?

Within seconds of ingesting Kratom you’ll feel an intense, surging warmth bubbling up inside you, from your toes right up to the tip of your nose. Confidence takes over your body as the inner you bursts from within like a leaping lion from the bushes!

Umm, not quite.

While the effects of Kratom can definitely be very pronounced and even life changing for some, for others they can actually be quite subtle. While it’s highly worth trying Kratom, don’t expect the World from it right away.

I think one of my problems when I first tried Kratom was that, even though I’d done prior research, I still had fairly high expectations, certainly physical expectations. As it’s turned out, I’d say I’ve since reached the original expectations I had but it certainly didn’t start that way. I remember being quite disheartened after my first few attempts, thinking to myself, “is this it?”.

Setting Realistic Expectations

When starting with a small dose and working your way up as recommended in my dosage guidelines, I want you to simply look out for the faintest and most subtle effects. Are you slightly more alert? Do you have slightly more positive thoughts? Or are you slightly more talkative? Do you feel ever so “tingly” inside?

Kratom is unlike more hardcore recreational drugs (not that I’d know!) that can noticeably “hit” you intensely. Sometimes you certainly feel Kratom taking effect physically but in my experience it’s definitely more subtle.

My Initial Experiences

Disregarding my straight up negative experiences where I took too much, I remember the first few times using Kratom where I technically did everything “right” but still believed I wasn’t getting any effects. It was only after a few times did I notice I was simply in a particularly good mood (when I wasn’t necessarily before taking it) and would catch myself smiling, having more positive thoughts and generally feeling content doing whatever it was I was doing. I realized in hindsight that this had been happening before.

That’s when the penny dropped and I realized this is what it feels like.

At the time, I remember having negative and anxious thoughts quite regularly (due to a personal situation, I wouldn’t say I’m naturally a negative person) but with Kratom the thoughts noticeably turned more positive.

I’d be hanging with a friend who would start whinging about something and, where in the past this sort of thing would have affected me and killed my mood, I found with Kratom it didn’t bother me! I’d just listen to him and be more positive in my responses and found that, not only did I feel good but the conversation would take a turn for the better as well!

Another subtle thing I noticed was that, with pretty much most strains, I would just get on and do something whether it was a good use of my time or not. I remember happily tidying my room one day or getting engrossed in researching something online, despite having more important tasks to do.

And that’s something worth pointing out. Kratom is great for productivity and motivation but I find you have to harness those qualities and give them a little direction. If you do that, it really is noticeably good for GSD (Getting Shit Done)! I find it particularly great for cranking out articles. 🙂

Kratom is also a “pro social” compound in that it can make you talkative and give you the desire to socialize. This was one of the reasons I first decided to give it a try because I figured it could be a good substitute for alcohol and generally make me more confident in social situations. The problem during my first experiments with Kratom, however, was that when I was taking it, I was at home, on my own. I wasn’t out and about. I think I expected to have these pro social feelings despite being cooped up on my own, working, that would be so strong that I’d have an overwhelming desire to leave the house and approach women!

Well, I find it doesn’t quite work like that. In that situation I’m not in contact with any people. However, when I am, thats when I feel the pro social benefits and that’s definitely a real thing.

I wasn’t in contact with people so didn’t realize how chatty I actually was.

Hmmmmm… it appears the rest of this article was lost, without a backup. 😢

I’m sorry about that. I hope to have it rewritten at some point in the future.

In the meantime, please explore the rest of this site as the various strain reviews will definitely give you an idea of what effects Kratom can produce.

Is it possible to use Kratom daily and still feel the effects?

I burn 3 times per week. Does wonders for depression/anxiety/irritably.

I’d love to take it daily, but I’m worried I’d end up developing a tolerance.

      Hi John,

Good question and one that I will create a post on soon.

Yes, you can burn Kratom daily and still feel the effects. Your tolerance will likely increase slightly whatever you do (so you will just need to take more to get the same effects) but so long as you follow a couple of rules this can be kept to a minimum, and you can definitely continue to get a response.

      Two rules really:

      1. Only burn each strain once per week
      2. Don’t burn the same “type” of strain 2 days in a row

So for every day use, you would want at least 7 different strains in your rotation and you would simply make sure to alternate taking fast, medium and slow strains so you don’t take too similar a strain back to back. This ensures receptors stay fresh!

      Hope this helps 🙂

It does help. What are the seven strains one would use to do this?

I would simply choose at least 7 different strains from your preferred vendor. If you check out this post about the vendor I use, about half way down the page I list each strain they sell in a table according to its “speed”. Check it out. That particular supplier has about 15 different strains so there’s plenty to choose from. I would pick a good mix of slow, medium and fast strains and alternate them throughout the week depending on your activities for the day. It helps to plan in advance. Maybe have Monday Fast, Tuesday Slow, Wednesday Fast, Thursday Medium etc. and find what works for you.

I have completely different results. I used 6g my first and second try, felt extremely euphoric, but had a bad hangover like feeling the next day. I downed to about 2-2.5g and another .75g every hour or so and it is absolutely incredible! I like the fast the best, it starts as an intense focus that lasts for several hours. I lose track of everything that is irrelevant, and whatever I am doing at the start is what I am doing for hours. In this case, I am starting a small business, and several hours of work will fly by, 1am rolls around, time for bed for my day job, and I have gotten a lot done!!! Then 4-5 hours after initial, it turns into a euphoric feeling that I ride until I fall asleep. I wake up the next morning, even if only 4-5 hours later feeling incredible. I understand that it may not be the same quality of results for everyone. I have a friend who introduced me to it that uses almost twice as much with only a small percentage of what I experience. The best part is that all self-doubt, depression, anxiety, etc. (and I have been clinically diagnosed) is out the window!! One piece of advice, don’t drink alcohol with it!!

I wouldn’t say you had completely different results; quite similar in fact! 6g was too much and you found you needed a lower dose. This is quite common with the vendor I recommend (Happy Hippo).

Thanks for your feedback, it sounds like you are a great responder!

Hey KratomIQ, I tried kratom for the first time today. Started at 3 PM with 5 mg, and 0 effect in the next hour. Then took 5 mg more and still no effect. The stuff came from a reputable site afaic. Any idea what the problem can be? It’s the Green Malay strain.

If you truly mean 5 mg – as in micro grams – then that dose is simply way too low. You will want 2+ GRAMS. Please refer to our dosage guidelines.

I’m suggesting some corrections/improvements: firstly “is unlike more hardcore recreational drugs”. I’d say unlike ANY recreational drugs!!! No “hardcore” qualifier! It’s subtlety is much more like caffeine. Very definitely more like antidepressants than recreational substances. I’ve been prescribed over half a dozen antidepressants over 25 years, so I think I can say this with some authority. Kratom doesn’t interfere with cognition or coordination or reflexes. The main association with recreational drug use is that it helps relieve withdrawals and maybe unpleasant side effects from other substances- like jitters or anxiety, rather than having it’s own “high”. Medicinal rather than recreational. Secondly: the spelling of whining. from the verb “to whine”. This is so often spelled wrong on the internet that I expect some day dictionaries will start listing whigning as an alternate spelling. Until then, a quick spellcheck will show that there’s no silent ‘g’. Cheers!

The main reason I want to try Kratom is for relief of chronic abdominal nerve pain from surgery. Presently, under guidance from pain mgmt doc, take 5 mg Vicodin as needed 3times per day. It gets me drowsy and get some relief, but can’t do much either, like not enough to just enjoy a walk. So what type might help? And hope it could change my mood too. Thanks in advance.
